Los Angeles-based Our Legends has brought Mongoose and Vans together for a co-designed collection inspired by the brands’ shared history as pioneers in BMX and SoCal pop culture.
Growing up, it’s almost guaranteed that you or someone in your crew rode a Mongoose bike. This throwback collection will sure to unlock some of those childhood memories. The collection features three colorways of the Vans Authentic 44 DX, each representing a time in Mongoose’s rich history as innovators in BMX and action sports.
The first colorway comes in black with hits of orange and yellow, inspired by Mongoose’s bike graphics and stickers first introduced in the 1970s. The second colorway is ’80s-inspired, featuring a red and blue checkerboard pattern that ties back to the Americana jerseys worn by the Mongoose BMX race team. The brand’s mascot Maurice the Mongoose makes an appearance on the midsole. The final colorway comes in a two-tone turquoise and pink checkerboard design, based on the colors used in Mongoose advertisements of the early ’90s.
“It was amazing to partner with Vans and Mongoose to bring these special edition shoe collections and heritage stories to life,” says Chad “Shoes” Blawas, creative studio director for Our Legends. “We wanted to pay homage to both of these iconic brands with designs that reflected multiple eras, and we truly feel we accomplished that and are offering collections that can be enjoyed by BMX core and lifestyle enthusiasts around the globe.”
The shoes retail at $105 USD per pair and are accompanied by an apparel selection that includes two long-sleeve tees ($50) and a crew fleece ($80). The Our Legends x Mongoose x Vans collection launches on Friday, August 12th on OurLegends.co, Mongoose.com, Vans.com, and select Vans dealers such as PacSun. Check out the collection below.
