adidas has called upon Pharrell Williams to redesign five of their massive soccer club jerseys from a thoughtful, handmade, and historic perspective.

Pharrell (via his Humanrace sub-label) has taken a unique approach to reimagining iconic moments from each club’s history. The jerseys feature an inky, hand-painted, and playful look to them that reminds us of the raw expressive nature of sport, and each uniform ties to a significant and legendary season or game in each of its corresponding team’ legacies. Speaking on the chosen aesthetic, Pharrell said:

“History is what shapes the future, and sometimes in order to look forwards, first we need to look back. The most important part of the process with this collection was to learn of each club’s legacies and how each defining moment of their histories were captured and preserved from a design perspective Each of the new jerseys are symbols of the five club’s legacies and a true celebration of the universality of sport.”

The collection starts off with a reimagined form of Arsenal’s 1991-1993 “bruised banana” jersey that utilizes paint bleed to transform the original pattern into something new. FC Bayern Munich gets a reinterpretation of their its red home jersey from the same years, now presented in a thick acrylic repaint style with its distinctive large shoulder graphic. Juventus’ jersey, on the other hand, brings back a more recent classic—their pink 2015-2016 shirt featuring Jeep’s logo front-and-center—in a further hand-painted style.

Humanrace selected Manchester United’s iconic blue and white “snowflake” jersey from 1990-1992 for an update, with the shirt now utilizing a tie-dye process to achieve a similar acid-house inspired design for modern sport. Finally, Real Madrid’s new jersey updates Yohji Yamamoto’s noteworthy 2014 black dragon jersey with a water-based graphic process and a splotchy Emirates logo.

All of the jerseys feature high-tech adidas AEROREADY fabric for superior moisture management and performance. The collection is available now via adidas UK, and it should be coming soon (alongside a reimagined Predator Mutator HU boot) to adidas’ US site. The jerseys will make their on-pitch debuts on October 24th and 25th, with Arsenal, Manchester United, and Real Madrid wearing theirs during warmup first and Juventus and FC Bayern Munich donning theirs for games in the following days.
