Super-agent Rich Paul. You may know him as the Klutch Sports Group founder who represents the likes of LeBron James and Chris Paul, or you may know him as Adele’s boyfriend. Either way, the sneakerhead community will soon know him as the guy with his own New Balance 550.
The partnership between Rich Paul and New Balance makes sense, as Paul was the one who orchestrated Darius Bazley’s internship with the footwear company in 2018. In lieu of more traditional paths to the NBA like the one-and-done college route or joining the G League, Bazley signed with New Balance in a first-of-its-kind deal where he interned with the company for three months and earned $1 million, with the potential to earn up to $14 million once drafted into the NBA. The Bazley partnership helped launch New Balance’s foray back into the basketball footwear category.
The Rich Paul x New Balance 550 oozes with vintage basketball aesthetic. It comes dressed primarily in off-white smooth and perforated leather with cream N logos and tongue tag graphics for a slightly aged look. Additionally, basketball-textured navy leather dresses the ankle collar area, matching the lip of the tongue, insoles. These hits combine with the sky blue on the outsole to create a UNC-themed color scheme. The shoe comes in a specially branded box dressed in creamy yellow for added vintage vibes.
