Original Story (7/23/20): Ronnie Fieg is to ASICS as a sculptor is to fine marble; having made the GEL-Lyte III his canvas countless times since the start of his career, he’s now turning back to his first-ever sneaker collaboration to commemorate how far he’s come.
Just last week, Fieg teased a redux of his original David Z. x ASICS pack, hinting that he was unsatisfied with some of his original choices both color and material-wise. The incredibly bright, shiny, and largely synthetic original pack don’t seem to reflect Fieg’s more recent design language that involves textured, high-end fabrics and softer colors, and the sneak peek he originally offered seemed to show a slightly modified redress of one of the original three colorways. Now, however, we have a look at what appears to be a trio of shoes inspired by the city of Tokyo.
Coming in with three colorways, the Ronnie Fieg x ASICS GEL-Lyte III Tokyo pack showcases soft colors, buttery suedes, and gold accents, adding up to a trio of sneakers fittingly luxe for Kith’s modern apparel releases. The first pair to be teased–a redux of one of Fieg’s original Gel Lyte IIIs–is labeled the “252.1” and uses soft Raspberry-pink suede on the toebox. A deep navy blue adorns an upper that’s accented with a gold ASICS logo. The second shoe, referred to by Fieg as the “Super Gold,” incorporates a primarily leather white upper with rough suede around the heel. The colorway earns its name with another gold ASICS logo and is rounded off by a multicolored outsole. Finally, the “Yoshino Rose” colorway uses a creamy white suede and durable mesh upper, a soft pink ASICS logo, and terracotta reddish-brown accents. Photos of the last model showcase “FIEG” branding embroidered on the GEL-Lyte III’s split tongue, a motif likely seen on all models.
