There are great, classic pieces in the world that benefit from the right collaborator. Russell Athletic, heritage brand and inventor of the sweatshirt is teaming up with NYC-based sneaker and apparel customizer Ceeze on a piece that breathes new life to the sweatshirt.
Using upcycled Russell Athletic sweatshirts as the base, Ceeze has created “Homecoming” Varsity Jackets in two colorways. One adopts a tan and blue color palette while the other sports a vintage grey and white. The body of the jacket is made with the sweatshirt, while sleeves are crafted from cactus leather. Selvedge poplin is used for the lining, with sustainably sourced ripping imported from Italy. The design inspiration comes from Russell’s brand catalogs from the ’70s and ’80s. Ceeze has also taken the liberty of creating custom chenille patches. These include the Russell Athletic “R” crest on the chest and “Champs” and “’21” patches on the sleeves.
Only 15 Homecoming Varsity Jackets were created in each colorway, for a total of 30 units. They release on November 19th at 12pm at ceezemc.com. Each retails for $425 USD.
