Original Story (12/27/21): Nike will be celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Cortez in 2022. We’ve already gotten a teaser of what the Swoosh has in-store with the reveal of the upcoming Union x Nike Cortez. Another major collaborator, Chitose Abe’s sacai, will also be releasing their own spin on the classic model.
The Nike Cortez launched in 1972 and was designed by Nike co-founder Bill Bowerman. It was Nike’s first track shoe, making it a significant silhouette in the company’s history. Chitose Abe’s sacai will offer its own iteration of the Cortez in 2022, with design details including a double Swoosh, double laces, double tongues, and a double-stacked midsole with visible Zoom Air on the lateral forefoot.
Look for the sacai x Nike Cortez to launch sometime in 2022 on SNKRS and at select retailers. Stay tuned to Modern Notoriety for first looks and additional info.
