Following the release of the awesome campaign video and imagery, we now have release info for the first drop of the Salehe Bembury x New Balance 574 YURT and FW21 apparel collection.
With a yurt — a round tent covered in skins or felt — at the center of his inspiration, Salehe showcases his love for hiking by taking the 574 and giving it an outdoor twist. As the original 574 released in the ’80s was launched as a trail running shoe, the now closet-staple silhouette is used as the base for the YURT, adding elements from the Test Run 3.0, 990v3, and the archived 755. Open mesh, a signature of Salehe Bembury x New Balance releases (see the 2002Rs), is combined with hairy suede, while a high pitch whistle is added to the the heel for outdoor safety and survival.
“You already need many different tools when venturing outdoors,” says Salehe. “The 574 YURT was created so that you don’t have to worry about remembering every item, because we’ve merged two into one with a whistle on the sneaker. Weaving this theme into the campaign video makes me excited to see how my audience takes this campaign while introducing the 574 YURT and apparel.”
The first drop of the Salehe Bembury x New Balance 574 YURT and FW21 apparel collection launches on October 22nd on the New Balance website and includes the grey and green colorways of the 574, the pink/blue cap, tees in orange and pink, pants in green and tan, and hoodies in green and blue. Additional colorways will launch later this season. A pre-launch on Bembury’s Spunge website goes down on October 16th at 9am PT.
