Salehe Bembury Teases New Balance “YURT” Collab

Salehe Bembury is at the top of the list of designers to keep an eye on in 2021. With a Crocs collaboration on the way and multiple stellar collabs with New Balance and ANTA already under his belt, Bembury now teases his next project with New Balance.

The designer has shared a super close-up shot of a New Balance shoe that features a Salehe Bembury tag sewn onto the ankle collar and the word “YURT” on the tongue tag. A yurt, as Wikipedia explains, is “a portable, round tent covered with skins or felt and used as a dwelling by several distinct nomadic groups in the steppes of Central Asia.”

From what we can see, the shoe comes dressed in shades of grey and features smooth suede and hairy suede in its construction. There’s also a mesh pattern around the ankle seen previously on both the first and second Bembury x NB 2002Rs. However, the tongue shape and construction is unlike anything we’ve seen before. There is ripstop on the front, a fuzzy material on the back, and the shape of the lip has a couple hills and valleys. Also worth noting that the e’s in “New Balance” on the tongue tag are upside down.

Last month, Bembury also shared a look at a blue sherpa cap that will be releasing as part of his FW21 New Balance collection. Whether these two products are part of the same collection is yet to be confirmed. Check out Salehe Bembury’s New Balance “YURT” teaser photo below as well as the fleece cap and stay tuned to Modern Notoriety for further updates.
