New Balance has teamed up with Singaporean sneaker customization wizard SBTG and sneaker boutique Limited Edt on a pair of military-styled shoes that pay homage to Singapore’s geography.
Dubbed the “Urban Islander,” the collection highlights the unique contrast between bustling city and island paradise that only Singapore has to offer. The release’s flagship model is the New Balance 327, and SBTG and Limited Edt have redressed it in an asymmetrical, highly-textured colorway that manages to evoke both loose and laid-back tropical wear and the rigid, rugged aesthetic of military gear. While the lateral sides of each shoe contrast hairy, olive-colored suede with a screen printed N logo, the medial side uses black suede to highlight teal pattern work (with one shoe featuring a cheetah print and the other featuring a Hawaiian shirt-style pineapple.) The model is tied together with an “Urban Islanders” tongue badge, printed insoles, and embossed co-branding in the pair’s suede paneling.
The other shoe in the collection, the New Balance 900 sandal, oozes casual comfort with a similar color scheme to its sister sneakers. The model is olive green and khaki brown, with the shoe’s Suicoke-style strap system patterned with tropical Urban Islander prints and fastened with a BOA crank system.
Both shoes will release alongside shirts, a tote bag, socks, and a set of towels on October 15th via Limited Edt’s CHAMBER webstore and SBTG’s website (which is currently password-protected). You can check out photos of the collection’s lookbook, as well as each footwear silhouette, down below.
