New York-based photographer Shaniqwa Jarvis is known for blending her modern fashion aesthetic with sensitive and emotional portraiture. Following partnerships with the likes of adidas, SNS, and Supreme, Jarvis is now teaming up with Converse on a collection that includes the Chuck Taylor All Star CX.
The photographer uses floral imagery to transform the classic Chuck Taylor All Star CX, the sneaker’s secondary laces, dust bag, shoebox and an accompanying cotton jersey pullover hoodie. This imagery is from a double-exposed photograph taken by Jarvis on a trip to Mexico that reminded the artist of her late father. Jarvis describes the floral photograph as a way to pay respect or “give the man his flowers,” a way to celebrate and pay tribute to her father’s life who helped her find her identity as a photographer. “He had such a great style and I can remember his outfit choices always had something extra; some bit of unexpected flare,” says Jarvis. “These pieces I’ve made are something extra – with an unexpected flare.”
The floral hues are complemented with a crisp white corduroy tongue, a nod to her father’s favorite fabric. The shoe is covered in a floral print with a translucent foxing along with a bold pink sole. Dropping alongside the floral sneakers is a matching black hoodie that also features the same floral imagery on the back.
