European sneaker retailer size? has partnered with New Balance to reveal a double release among their latest list of collabs: new renditions of the 550 and 574.
The New Balance 550, once considered a shoe of the past, recently re-entered the limelight by appealing to the trending demands for retro looks and vintage (looking) pieces, first with a four-piece collaboration with New York’s Aimé Leon Dore, then a couple general release drops overseas. Though the U.S. awaits an official release of its own, the brand linked with size? to keep the ball rolling in 2021.
Taking into account the academia aesthetic, size? applied white leather, red and grey colorblocked accents, a thick, gummy “N” design and yellowed treatments to round off the silhouette. Audio recorded by Size? buyers for their new app revealed that the “Americana, Ivy League look” came inspired from visits to Greece.
As for the 574, a more head-on approach comes in the form of a vibrant orange color scheme that draws reference from size?’s signature branding. The sight for sore eyes is interrupted by a satisfying white and cream set of laces, tongue, “N” logo and midsole. To soften the shoe even more, both figuratively and literally, premium suede is overlaid on the construction of the shoe, complete with a mesh base that is tied together with leather panels at the heel. The 574 is then given a firm foundation of black outsole to round out the vintage feel.
There are no official release dates yet for the size? x New Balance 550 and 574, but both can be expected to drop this spring via the size? Launches app. Catch a closer look at both shoes below and stay tuned to Modern Notoriety for more info.
