Original Story (05/03/22): Skate Like a Girl is a nonprofit organization founded in 2000 whose mission is to create an inclusive community by promoting confidence, leadership, and social justice through skateboarding. Skate Like a Girl is now teaming up with Nike SB on a collaboration on the Dunk Low.
Holly Sheehan and Fleur Larsen, students from Evergreen State College in Washington, formed Skate Like a Girl after seeing the absence of female-identifying people in skate culture. Similar to Chicago’s froSkate, who will soon be dropping their own Nike SB Dunk High, the organization aims to empower skaters, especially young women and trans people, by lowering barriers of entry and hosting a variety of programs and events.
The Skate Like a Girl x Nike SB Dunk Low features a premium nubuck upper in an off-white hue, paired with maroon overlays. Striped texture fabric is used throughout the shoe, such as on the tongue, maroon sockliner, and bright red swoosh. Skate Like a Girl branding appears on the tongue tag, while the Nike branding on the heel panel comes in the organization’s wavy font. A hand-holding motif appears under the heel panel. A white midsole and gum outsole rounds out the design.
