Following the atmos x ASICS GEL-LYTE III collaboration that took across across the globe with NYC and Tokyo colorways, ASICS now takes a trip down south. Linking up with Derek Curry and his Lafayette-based boutique Sneaker Politics, the two present the ASICS GEL-LYTE III “Always Ready.”
Sneaker Politics has been one of the most respected sneaker boutiques in the country since opening its doors back in 2006 in the Lafayette area of Louisiana. They have since expanded to a total of six locations, including two stores in Texas.
For this Memorial Day weekend release, Curry and Sneaker Politics say thank you to US Army vets and all who are actively serving in the military. Having enlisted in the US Army himself in 1999 and spending nine months in Iraq in 2003, Curry credits much of his success to the lessons and values he learned while serving in the military. The core design philosophy for this project stems from Curry’s unit’s motto “Toujours Prêt,” which translates to “Always Ready.”
The GEL-LYTE III is outfitted with a range of military-inspired details. The upper comes in army green and is embellished with removable military-style badges. Sections on the toe box have been torn off to reveal the stars and stripes of the United States flag underneath. Other details include the Sneaker Politics opening date embroidered on the medial toe cap, a Special Forces tag on the split tongue, custom graphic insoles, and additional accessories including a dog tag and extra lace options packaged in the special box.
To further show gratitude, Sneaker Politics will be donating a portion of the profits to the Wounded Warrior Project and the Lone Survivor Foundation, two non-profit organizations that help veterans and active-duty service members.
The Sneaker Politics x ASICS GEL-LYTE III “Always Ready” will be available first to veterans and active-duty military members on May 27th at all Sneaker Politics locations. A public in-store release will be held on May 28th, followed by an online release on May 30th at 9am CDT on the Sneaker Politics website.
