Nike Waffle One ‘Whitaker Group Exclusive’ Release Info

Original Story (02/18/21): Following the reveal of the A Ma Maniére x Air Jordan 3, another Whitaker Group retailer, Social Status, reveals its own exclusive Nike release, a special colorway of the Nike Waffle One.

The Nike Waffle One is a brand new silhouette that gives a modern twist to Nike’s classic Waffle Racer, a model introduced back in 1977. The Social Status-exclusive colorway features a faded red dye look on its mesh upper, synthetic underlays, and laces, with light grey suede dressing the overlays on the mudguard, eyelets, and heel. Other features include a dark grey translucent heel counter and a black Swoosh. The midsole is coated in a bronzed yellow finish, adding a vintage aesthetic to the modern silhouette. The shoe comes wrapped in special tissue paper that features comic book-like graphics depicting Bill Bowerman creating the now-iconic waffle sole using a kitchen waffle iron.

Update (02/19/21): The Social Status has announced the release of the Nike Waffle One Whitaker Group Exclusive.

Limited to only 500 pairs, all individually numbered, this release marks the global debut of this brand new silhouette in the iconic NIKE Waffle line, launching exclusively at Social Status on February 26th.⁠⁠

The story, concept and colorway for the Whitaker Group exclusive colorway of the Waffle One were shaped by designer Frank Cooker, drawing inspiration from Bill Bowerman and the original waffle maker used to make the one that started it all. A storyboard of this sneaker origin story reimagined and crafted by artist, designer and creative director PELNYC adorns the paper included in the box, adding modern context to a pivotal moment in sneaker history and making this drop a unique collector’s item.⁠⁠
