Pop culture design house and collectible connoisseurs Super7 have announced a spooky and extremely fun collection in partnership with Saucony and Universal Monsters. Four iterations of the classic Saucony Jazz Original represent four of Universal’s most fearsome and beloved monsters: The Creature from the Black Lagoon, Frankenstein, the Bride of Frankenstein, and the Mummy.
The first of these shoes features shiny, scaly heel cup and toebox paneling to evoke the fearsome Creature himself. Rounding the shoe out, bold red laces pop against murky green paneling to represent the monster’s lips. Frankenstein’s shoe is straightforward and highly effective; green suede toebox and eyestay paneling are laid atop green nylon and a green leather Saucony logo, while a brown leather toebox and heel panel are visibly stitched onto the rest of the assembly.
Frankenstein’s lover, however, gets a similar (but even more electrifying) treatment with her husband’s browns and dark greens swapped for off-white, lime green, and dark purple. While the stitching from the Frankenstein shoe remains, the Bride of Frankenstein gets glow-in-the-dark laces and midsole speckles alongside a white wave along the heel to represent her signature hairdo. Rounding the collection out, the Mummy uses tonal greys above a bandage-style mesh upper, a black tongue, and red laces.
Each of the Super7 x Universal Monsters Saucony Jazz Originals features a woven tongue label bearing their respective monsters’ names, as well as a custom sockliner and special packaging. Like the duo’s previous collection, which was exclusive to a San Diego Comic Con pop-up in 2018, the collection is set to be highly exclusive.
The shoes will drop on Friday, May 21st at noon PT via Super7’s site, Saucony’s website, and both Super7 retail stores (one in San Francisco, one in San Diego). Each pair will be available for $100 in men’s sizes 6-12.
