Tokyo retailers the Apartment are gearing up to release a bespoke New Balance ML801GTX that celebrates playful trail-running style.
Dubbed the “Toucan,” the model dresses New Balance’s outdoors-staple silhouette in bright colors and a full Gore-Tex upper for breathable waterproofing. The shoe takes inspiration from the bird it’s named after—the upper showcases bright yellows, ocean-blues and orange-reds existing in perfect harmony. Rounded out by Gore-Tex branding on the shoe’s rugged forefoot mudguard and a lace lock reminiscent of crunchy rain jacket cords, the shoe pays ultimate tribute to the playful Gorpcore style that’s been slowly permeating the casual sneaker market.
The Apartment x New Balance ML801GTX releases via in-store raffle at the Apartment’s Tokyo boutique and select Japanese stockists on June 27th. The Apartment does not ship overseas, but North America and EU customers will have a chance to cop via Better Gift Shop and Dover Street Market. The shoe will be releasing alongside a branded carabiner (similar to Bodega’s New Balance X-Racer All Terrain) and a branded pair of shorts.
