thisisneverthat x New Balance “The 2022 Downtown Run” Collection

After teaming up earlier in the year on a 860v2 collection, Korean streetwear label thisisneverthat and New Balance reconnect for a Fall 2022 collaboration.

The new collection has a running-focused theme and features two footwear silhouettes: the 2002R and 1906R. Both pairs are dressed in a grey-based color scheme and come with vintage-inspired details. The 2002R employs cracked paneling around its ankle collar and on the tongue, while the 1906R takes on pre-worn look with blotches across the upper and a yellowed midsole. The accompanying apparel includes tees, hoodies, hats, coach jackets, and shorts, all featuring “The 2022 Downtown Run” branding.

Similar to how the 2002R is a remastered version of the New Balance 2002, the 1906R is an updated version of the New Balance 1906 runner from the 2000s. However, the connection doesn’t end there. When the OG 2002 was introduced in 2010, it borrowed a sole unit from the brand’s premier running shoe at the time, the 1906. The 2002R, introduced in 2020, replaced this sole unit with that of the 860v2. Now that the 1906 is being reintroduced as the 1906R, it also has a new sole unit borrowed from the 860v2. With thisisneverthat previously collaborating with New Balance on the 860v2 and the 2002R, adding the 1906R to the mix continues the story of New Balance’s 2000s-era running history.

The thisisneverthat x New Balance Fall 2022 collection launches on Thursday, August 4th at 9pm EDT on thisisneverthat.com. The collection will also be available at NewBalance.com and select retailers worldwide on August 19th. Check out the campaign imagery below.
