Travis Scott has officially released his newest single, “Franchise,” and a wild and lavish accompanying music video shot at Michael Jordan’s Chicago-area mansion.
The song, which has been teased by Scott multiple times in the leadup to its release, is likely at least a partial homage to Dem Franchize Boyz’ song, “White Tee.” In “Franchise,” the chorus sees Scott rapping “In my white tee, yeah/ Call up Hype Williams for the hype, please/ Uh, they gon’ wipe you, before you wipe me/ Unboxing my checks not my Nikes.” The song generally seems to highlight the wealth and lifestyle that’s come along with Travis’ recent massive deals with McDonald’s and Nike, and both Young Thug and MIA have verses throughout the track.
The music video begins with archival footage of Michael Jordan leaving his mansion during his tenure with the bulls, the large “23” gates opening up to let his car through. Travis is then seen with his convoy rolling up to the mansion in vintage sports cars, positioning himself as the new king on the throne Jordan once held within Nike. Later shots in the video pay tribute to Alejandro Jodorowsky’s 1973 arthouse film The Holy Mountain, a movie Kanye West claimed inspired him during the creation of Yeezus. Scott and Young Thug are also seen partying throughout the mansion, popping cans of a (likely forthcoming) “Cacti” alcohol, dancing in a pool of synchronized swimmers, and chilling in a floating car. MIA, on the other hand, is shown covered in flowers and dancing in a field of sheep and decorative mirrors in the foreground of the ruins of a castle.
