Japanese fashion designer Jun Takahashi is no stranger to the Nike brand. For almost a decade, Jun has worked side-by-side with Nike on the running-focused Gyakusou line. His brand UNDERCOVER has also seen collaborations with Nike in the past (see the UNDERCOVER x Nike React Element 87). Now, the two brands are set to release a full capsule collection, which includes the UNDERCOVER x Nike Daybreak.
First debuted in UNDERCOVER’s spring/summer 2019 Paris runway show, the collaborative sneaker incorporates the Daybreak silhouette, a vintage silhouette that Nike discontinued in the early 80s. The upper is constructed of a nylon base with hits of suede on the heel and mudguard. A distinct plastic heel piece adds a unique characteristic to the silhouette. The UNDERCOVER x Nike Daybreak will release in seven colorways, three for men and four for women. Men’s colorways include Black/White-Summit White, Blue Jay/Summit White-Black, and Bright Citron/Black-Summit. The women’s lineup includes Black/Sail, Lucky Green/University Red-Sail, Obsidian/Gold Dart-Sail, and University Red/Black-Spruce Aura.
Also included in the collection is four garments, each equipped with Velcro tabs, allowing for adjustments to fit, distinct functionality, and personalization of drape and scale. The long-sleeve top can be modified for width, while the size of the t-shirt’s arm holes can be altered. A pocket hood, kangaroo-style front pouch, and mesh zippered pockets on the rear provide extended carrying capacity to the tracksuit.
Global release of the Nike x UNDERCOVER SS19 collection begins June 7. The Daybreak will retail for $160.
