After a teaser announcement earlier this year, Jil Sander’s triumphant revival of her +J collection with Uniqlo has finally been unveiled.
The garments are all the fashion world could’ve hoped for: tastefully unique minimalist staples for professionals of all ages and kinds. In a statement, Sander explained, “I set out to define the global modern uniform with this in mind: Clothes should be long-lasting and enduring…They should serve the wearer and give her or him the energy and self-assurance which is so much needed in our global reality.”
As many have noted, versatile, affordable, and understated clothing seems like the perfect concept for a fashion collection when job prospects can seem uncertain and the working world is being renegotiated. Blazers, cashmere coats, and oversized outerwear highlight the men’s collection, while pieces like a knit cardigan with small cloud patterning and unique button-up and stand collar shirts provide eye-catching basics.
The women’s side of the collection includes similar androgynous basics like understated blouses, ribbed sweaters, knit cardigans, and thoughtfully oversized down outerwear. Additionally, Sander has prepared three dresses: two merino knit garments and a belt-tied longsleeve shirt dress. Both sides of the collection offer similar sets of accessories including belts and scarves.
The Jil Sander x Uniqlo +J 2020 collection releases online and in-stores on 11/12 at “mid-morning ET.” You can preview the collection on Uniqlo’s site right now, but we’ve included some lookbook shots down below.
