Around the year 2000, A Bathing Ape stepped into the footwear game with the BAPE STA, the Japanese streetwear brand’s answer to the Air Force 1, taking design cues from the classic Nike model but serving it in a wide variety of colors and materials that the AF1 was not offered in at the time. NIGO continued this trend in subsequent years, introducing models such as the CREPE STA (inspired by the PUMA Suede), the SKULL STA (BAPE’s take on the adidas Superstar), and the SK8 STA (a flip on the Nike Dunk).
The SK8 STA is now poised to make a return in 2021, as images of new iterations of the model have surfaced. Among those previewed in these images is a “Purple Pigeon”-esque grey and purple pair, a black and yellow colorway, a “Skunk”-like green and purple colorway, a black and white high-top version, and another high-top that resembles the Kanye West BAPE STA.
