BAIT and Overwatch League Team Up to Give “Sneaker Bonuses” to Pros

The Overwatch League 2020 postseason kicks off this Thursday, September 3rd, with 20 teams set to compete in single elimination playoff matches over the course of two weeks. The teams will be competing for a chunk of the $4 million Grand Finals prize pool, though they will have some other incentives to perform to the best of their abilities.

The Overwatch League and BAIT have teamed up to introduce “Sneaker Bonuses.” If a player on a team earns a specific performance-based achievement, they will win a sneaker of their choice from a selection curated by the BAIT team. For example, if a player achieves a Fleta Deadlift (when one player accounts for over half of their team’s eliminations) he’ll unlock a BAIT sneaker bonus.

“Gaming and sneakers cultures have always had a passionate, shared community. You can see it on display through some of the collabs that have dropped recently like the Xbox Jordans and the PlayStation PG2s. So, there is no better time than now for Overwatch League and BAIT to partner to create sneaker bonuses,” says Eric Phan, CMO of BAIT. Esports pros are definitely part of the shared gaming and sneaker culture and will appreciate what we are putting together.”

This is not the first time that the Overwatch League has dipped its toes into sneaker/streetwear culture. Streetwear designer Jeff Staple, creator of the infamous “Pigeon” Dunks, was chosen to design this season’s team kits.
