Cactus Plant Flea Market is a clothing brand founded by Cynthia Lu in 2015. Before doing her own thing, Cynthia was a former intern at Complex and later was Pharrell’s assistant, working on projects at Billionaire Boys Club and i am OTHER. Cactus Plant Flea Market has risen in popularity due to Cynthia’s unique use of colorful and playful imagery. Everyone from Kanye West to Cara Delevingne (and Pharrell, of course) has been seen rocking a CPFM piece throughout these past few years.
Nike is the latest co-signer of CPFM, collaborating with the brand on an iteration of the Air VaporMax. The upper sports a gray and black colorway, while the sole features a green to red gradient from heel to toe. The “JUST DO IT” motto wraps around the heel, extending from the side panels, seen in black on the left sneaker and white on the right. The “O” is replaced by a four-eyed smiley emoji on the center of the heel. The insoles are just as eccentric: a giant black “L” and “R” indicate the left and right sneaker over a colorful, topographical pattern, with the colors on each foot inverted from the other. A teal Swoosh is stitched atop the underlying black Swoosh, adding a 3D feature to this eccentric sneaker.
A Friends & Family version of the sneaker exists, featuring a light-up midsole that can be plugged in to charge.
The Cactus Plant Flea Market x Nike Air VaporMax arrives May 14th exclusively at Dover Street Market locations.
