Converse Joins in on Nike’s Sustainable Crater Collection

Following all of the first looks and releases of Nike’s Space Hippie exploratory collection, Converse is re-imagining the iconic Chuck Taylor All Star with a more sustainable thought in mind.

The Chuck Taylor All Star gets the space hippie treatment, but with three difficult challenges that were overcome – applying Crater Foam to a Chuck shape, identifying a viable upper materials and radically rethinking the use of reinforcer materials.

More than 100 people came together to overcome these obstacles, and by using in-situ design the Chuck Taylor All-Star received the speckled crater foam treatment for the sole which expands differently than the regular foam. Converse created unique uppers that use Morphlon blends, which are recycled polyester and recycled post-industrial textile waste scraps along with an added pull-through tab and finalized with a new lacing system as a byproduct.

The Converse Chuck Taylor All Star Crater is a part of Nike’s “Move to Zero” journey towards zero carbon and zero waste, an effort to reduce their carbon footprint. The Chuck Taylor All Star turns trash into a new product and with at least 40% recycled material this is one of Converse’s most sustainable sneakers to date.

Dropping in three colorways, the Converse Chuck Taylor All Star Crater releases July 23rd on the Converse Webstore at 9 AM CST for a retail price of $95 USD.
