Darryl Brown’s adidas Campus 80s collaboration is finally releasing.
The Toledo-based designer first linked with the Three Stripes last year for the launch of the Midwest Kids x adidas collection, a collaboration with Brown’s streetwear brand. The follow-up, Darryl Brown’s own Campus 80s inspired by everyday working class people, was initially slated to drop for NBA All-Star back in February, which took place in Brown’s home state of Ohio, though the project was pushed back several times. However, some retailers didn’t receive the memo and recently released the shoe before the official rollout, which caused Brown to put out an IG post explaining his frustration with the drop.
This is mostly water under the bridge now, as the Darryl Brown x adidas Campus 80s now has an official release date. The shoe features an jade green upper made of canvas and suede, inspired by the welding jacket Brown’s father wore when he worked for Chrysler. Additional details include a leather liner, a gum brown sole, and factory graphics on the insole patch. Last but not least, the shoe also features a small tag on the eyelets that reads “Darryl Brown,” with “Toledo, OH 43604” hidden on the under side.
The project is meant to honor and uplift the stories of blue-collar workers, all through Brown’s eye for workwear. As such, the accompanying campaign stars everyday people from all over Toledo, Ohio – barbers, cooks, fire fighters, etc.
The Darryl Brown x adidas Campus 80s drops this Wednesday, November 16th on adidas Confirmed and at select retailers.
