Original Story (06/17/22): Nike is revisiting one of its most rarest grails, the infamous eBay Dunk Low, as part of a partnership between eBay Sneakers, the Bodecker Foundation, and Nike SB.
In 2003, Nike auctioned off on eBay a single pair of eBay x Nike SB Dunk Lows for charity. The pair sold for around $30,000 USD and proceeds were donated to a foundation dedicated to Tim Brauch, an accomplished pro skater who died of a sudden cardiac arrest in 1999 at the age of 25.
The only other pair known to have existed is the sample pair that was put on display at the auction, though that pair was famously cut up into sections and destroyed so that the winner of the auction could have the only pair in the world.
It turns out that the winner of the auction was the one and only Sandy Bodecker, widely credited as the godfather of Nike SB. As a tribute to Bodecker, who passed away in 2018, Nike SB is now bringing back the eBay Dunk, though with a new twist that pays homage to the history of the original.
The new eBay x Nike SB Dunk Low features the same color scheme as the original, a white base with overlays dressed in eBay’s signature red, yellow, blue, and green. However, the new version now features “clear” stripes across the sole and side panels, marking where the original eBay Dunk sample was cut up into four pieces. The heel panels also now feature SB branding instead of the eBay logo. As a final touch, the insoles feature a photo of Sandy Bodecker and his son.

Update (07/05/22): Here’s a look at a 2022 “eBay” SB Dunk Low sample, courtesy of woganwodeyang. Expect the final version to feature the same “cuts” across the upper. However, this one is missing the red paneling across the heel and has a clear outsole instead of red.
