In the opening lines of the 2004 song “FILA (Forever I Love Atlanta)” by Lil Scrappy, the King of Crunk Lil Jon throws some shots at Nike and adidas before stating that he and his crew “rock them mothafuckin FILAs.” 18 years later, FILA and Lil Jon are officially joining forces for a limited edition collection of footwear and apparel.
The star of the collection is the Lil Jon x FILA Renno, crafted in pink, red, and white hues with metallic silver accents. One of Lil Jon’s famous catchphrases, “AYEEE,” appears on the tongue, while the insoles feature a repeating graphic print that combines both “ATL” and “AYEEE!”
“I’m from Atlanta where we use the acronym ‘Forever I Love Atlanta.’ We rock FILA, and we’ve never stopped rockin’ FILA. The acronym and the city are intertwined,” says Lil Jon.
The shoes are accompanied by a graphic tee available in black and white featuring graphics illustrated by Atlanta-based creative Richard Montgomery, aka Freako Rico. The artist uses his signature “hip-hop meets comic book” style on the design, which incorporates the Atlanta cityscape, the Renno, and the famous “AYEEE.”
“Freako Rico is a well-respected artist in Atlanta and it was important to me that we use a local creative to represent my hometown,” continues Lil Jon. “His bright and vibrant illustrations and his 90’s design style captured the freshness of the FILA Renno.”
