Original Story (05/08/20): With the premiere of ESPN’s The Last Dance documentary about Michael Jordan, hype for the Air Jordan 1 is the highest its been in a long time. Pairs of the most recent re-release of the Chicago colorway are hovering around a thousand on StockX and eBay. Following the unearthing of its predecessor, a banned pair of 1984 Nike Air Ships, another wildly coveted pair from the 80s is making headlines.
Sotheby’s is holding an online auction for an autographed pair of Michael Jordan’s game-worn “Chicago” Air Jordan 1s from 1985. These babies are estimated to sell for 100K to 150K, making them among the most valuable pairs of sneakers ever. Incidentally, Sotheby’s held an auction for the most valuable pair of sneakers ever, the 1972 Nike “Moon Shoe,” which sold for $437,500 USD.

Update (05/18/20): Michael Jordan’s game-worn autographed “Chicago” Air Jordan 1s from 1985 sold for $560,000 yesterday afternoon in the Sotheby’s online auction, surpassing the previous world auction record for a pair of sneakers set by the 1972 Nike Waffle Racing Flat “Moon Shoe” which sold for $437,500 in July 2019.
