Original Story (05/10/22): Ibn Jasper is probably best known as Kanye West’s personal barber, though he is a man of many talents. He’s also a fashion designer and avid skateboarder, and even launched his own footwear company Stratica International in 2018. Jasper is now teaming up Converse for a collaboration on the One Star silhouette.
Following up his Pro Leather collab from 2019, the Ibn Jasper One Star draws heavy inspiration from race cars, something that is also true about his Stratica footwear. Jasper has completely overhauled the silhouette to create a restomod of the classic with a ton of added features.
The most noticeable change to a standard One Star is the addition of the large tire tread bumpers on the toe and heel ends of the midsole. This adds lateral reinforcement and creates support for the sideways movements while skating. Toe box and mudguard overlays have also been added, as well as a heel counter with reflective piping and snakeskin detailing. Additional snakeskin detailing is found on the tongue, while the rest of the upper is made with tumbled leather. Inside the shoe is a cork insole infused with ortholite foam, which sits atop a PU foam strobel for added impact protection. Race car-inspired motifs are found throughout the shoe. One colorway revealed by Jasper comes in white with black detailing, while another comes in black with hits of purple and gold, though a third F&F colorway revealed by Ben Baller (and others) comes in orange.
