New Balance and Jaden Smith are gearing up to release an even more sustainable version of the rapper and artist’s signature sneaker, the Vision Racer.
The baseline model of the shoe is already a leap in sustainable design for New Balance; it uses zero animal-derived leather, has an upper made from recycled textiles and polyester, and uses reground EVA in the midsole. This time around, the model will also use surplus textiles and synthetic leathers ostensibly from New Balance factory cutting floors. Because the shoes use recycled materials of varying availabilities, no two pairs will be the same in terms of color blocking and construction (though it seems they’ll generally be colorful and playful looking).
The NB for Jaden Smith Vision Racer “Surplus” releases via the Greenhouse app for $150 on October 21st. The shoes will also be available in limited quantities via Footlocker’s website in North America and Europe on October 23rd. You can take a look at product photos of the shoes down below.
