Nike Air Griffey Max 1 “Aquamarine” Release Date

0

Original Story (02/10/22): When Nike introduced Ken Griffey Jr.’s Air Griffey Air Max 1 in 1996, it dropped in three colorways: “Freshwater,” “Emerald,” and “Varsity Royal.” Each one was retro’d in 2021 in celebration of the model’s 25th anniversary. The “Freshwater” and “Emerald” came in color schemes that nod to the Seattle Mariners, the team with which The Kid made his MLB debut. In 2022, Nike will be introducing a new colorway of the Air Griffey Max 1 also dressed in Mariners colors, though this one inspired by the team’s alternate uniforms.

This Air Griffey Max 1 features a white leather base and nubuck overlays dressed in teal, though in a slightly brighter shade than the “Freshwater” teal used on the OGs. Black is then applied to the forefoot Swoosh, strap, and sockliner, while pops of red can be found on the mini Swooshes on the heels, tongue pull tabs, and strap fastener. Underfoot lies a white midsole with exposed Air throughout and a black rubber outsole.

Check out official images of this “Mariners Alternate” Nike Air Griffey Max 1 below. Expect these to drop later this year on Nike.com and at select retailers. Stay tuned to Modern Notoriety for updates.

Update (04/28/22): This colorway is officially called “Aquamarine” and drops on May 12th on Nike.com.
