Nike is once again commemorating Hangul Day this year with a special footwear drop, this time featuring two Air Max silhouettes.
The national holiday celebrating the Korean alphabet is observed every year on October 9th in South Korea. After dropping two colorways of the “Hangul Day” Air Force 1 in 2021, Nike has chosen the Air Max 1 and Air Max 97 for this year’s drop, as the silhouettes are celebrating their 35th and 25th anniversaries this year, respectively.
The “Hangul Day” Air Max 1 comes in a clean sail and white color scheme and features a mix of leather, suede, and fleece in its construction. Special features include a Jewel Swoosh on the side panels, drawstring-style laces, and whited-out Air bubbles for a “No Bubble” aesthetic. As a final touch, clear TPU paneling with “나이키” (“Nike” in Hangul) is overlaid atop the usual Nike Air heel branding. These come in women’s sizing.
To contrast the Air Max 1, the Air Max 97 comes in men’s sizing and is dressed primarily in black. These also feature premium construction, drawstring laces, and a blocked-out Air bubble. It also features “나이키” branding, though this time it is applied over the Swoosh on the side panels.
The Nike Air Max 1 and Air Max 97 “Hangul Day” drop exclusively in Asia on October 6th via SNKRS and at select Asian retailers such as atmos Tokyo. Check out official images below.
