Nike SB Brings Back the Air Trainer 1 “Chlorophyll”

The Nike Air Trainer 1 first made its debut in 1987. The all-purpose trainer was worn by tennis legend John McEnroe on court that year and blew the crowd away with his performance. McEnroe declared after the match, “this is the best shoe I’ve ever played in.” Many have the same sentiments as McEnroe, as the shoe is widely considered the best tennis sneaker of all time, even though it was created as an all-purpose trainer.

The Air Trainer 1 has transcended just tennis though. In 2003, Nike SB modified the tennis sneaker/all-purpose trainer into a skate shoe. Nike SB will now be releasing the Air Trainer 1 in the OG “Chlorophyll” colorway that McEnroe wore in 1987. Based on photos shared by Attitude Inc., the upcoming SB version features grey suede overlays that appear to be softer than the original, making it more skate-friendly, while the black forefoot is also made of suede, which was originally leather on the OG pair.

The Nike SB Air Trainer 1 “Chlorophyll” will release at Orange Label skate shops in Europe like Attitude Inc. on October 3rd, while Orange Label shops in the US will drop these once their shipments arrive.
