Following the release of its Lucha Libre capsule, Nike continues to recognize Mexico’s greatest traditions with its 2021 Día de Muertos pack.
In honor of the Mexican holiday Day of the Dead, Nike presents a collection consisting of an Air Force 1, Air Jordan 1 Mid, and apparel, focusing on the theme “Siempre Familia” and the unbreakable bonds of families.
Inspiration for the pack is drawn from Mictlán, which according to Aztec mythology is the underworld comprised of nine levels that souls must journey through in the afterlife before returning home to their families. Day of the Dead was created as a way to welcome the dead family members back home.
The Air Force 1 and Air Jordan 1 Mid feature embroidered Swooshes and other decorative features inspired by Mictlán. Throughout the collection we see symbolic creatures like the jaguar, iguana, and the Xolo, the canine companion who guides souls through the afterlife. The apparel includes a bomber jacket and a collection of tees.
The Nike Día de Muertos 2021 collection releases October 24 on SNKRS in Mexico, October 26 on the Nike app in Mexico, and October 29 on Nike.com and retailers worldwide.
