Sony Introduces DualSense: the New Controller for the PS5

Sony today has offered the PlayStation community a first look at the DualSense™ wireless controller that will come with the PS5. The unique features of DualSense, along with PS5’s Tempest 3D AudioTech, will deliver a new feeling of immersion to players in the next gen.

A new haptic feedback vibration system adds a variety of powerful sensations you’ll feel when you play, such as the slow grittiness of driving a car through mud. Adaptive triggers have also been implemented into the L2 and R2 buttons of DualSense so you can truly feel the tension of your actions, like when drawing a bow to shoot an arrow.

Taking these improvements in functionality into account, Sony’s designers were then able to draw the lines of how the exterior of the controller would look and feel, with a challenge of making the controller feel smaller than it really looks. In the end, Sony changed the angle of the hand triggers and also made some subtle updates to the grip.

Building upon the success of the Share button on the DualShock 4, Sony introduces a new “Create” button so players can create epic gameplay content to share with the world, or just to enjoy for themselves. DualSense also adds a built-in microphone array, which will enable players to easily chat with friends without a headset – ideal for jumping into a quick conversation. But of course, if you are planning to chat for a longer period, it’s good to have that headset handy.

As for colors, the DualSense introduces a new two-toned design, a departure from previous single color controllers. The position of the light bar has also been moved to each side of the touchpad, giving the controller an extra pop. The controller charges via USB-C.

The Sony Playstation 5 and DualSense controller launches Holiday 2020. Stay tuned to Modern Notoriety for updates on the next gen consoles.
