STAPLE & Fossil Deliver Prehistoric-Themed Watches

After dropping a smartwatch for gamers with Razer, Fossil is now linking up with Jeff Staple’s STAPLE streetwear brand on a limited-edition watch collection inspired by the Fossil archives and the concept of time itself.

The STAPLE x Fossil watch combines design cues from the Sundial and Hologram, two Fossil watch models originally released in the early 1990s. Influenced by idea of actual fossils, the watch comes in three terrazzo stone-inspired colorways reminiscent of excavated Earth, the grind of debris in the city streets, and STAPLE’s iconic pigeon color combination.

To mimic excavated Earth, the watch features ground bits throughout the silicone construction. A sundial appears on the outer side of the locket-style piece, with the gnomon (hand) of the sundial featuring a pigeon cutout, making the branding visible through the shadow. Opening the locket reveals a hidden hologram dial and fish-eye STAPLE branding stamped on the underside of the hatch. The hologram dial transitions between a pigeon in flight and the STAPLE Pigeon logo superimposed over a 3D render of the same fish-eye STAPLE marking.

The archaeological, prehistoric theme continues with a specially made case that resembles an excavated fossil egg. The collection is rounded out by two limited-edition black rPet straps, each interchangeable with 22mm straps. One features the STAPLE word logo in white, and the other pictures the pigeon logo in a repeat pattern. Three exclusive STAPLE x Fossil digital dials with the pigeon logo will also become available for Gen 6 display smartwatches.

The STAPLE x Fossil collection will see a limited launch at the second annual STAPLE DAY, a one-day-only virtual shopping festival on the NTWRK app. The fest will also include other exclusive STAPLE drops and never-before-seen collaborations.

“For the STAPLE x Fossil watches, we blended the heritage of both brands to create something new that’s perfect for collectors,” says Jeff Staple, founder of STAPLE and Reed Art Department. “The design features a special sundial and hidden Pigeon hologram — a nod to the Fossil archives with a STAPLE twist that will take flight on the second annual STAPLE DAY.”

STAPLE DAY takes place on June 12th on NTWRK. Following the limited launch, the STAPLE x Fossil collection will see a wider release on July 14th on Fossil.com. The retail price for the watches is set at $280 USD, with the additional straps priced at $40 USD.
