Stüssy Celebrates its 40th Anniversary with New Collection

Modern-day streetwear is widely credited to have been born out of the ’70s-’80s NYC hip-hop scene, though elements of California surfskate culture are also embedded in its DNA. Stüssy, founded in the early ’80s, originally started as a surfwear brand but has since been adopted by skaters, hip-hop heads, and the overarching streetwear community.

To commemorate the brand’s 40th anniversary, Stüssy has created a new collection consisting of a limited-edition varsity jacket, t-shirt, and ring. The IST (International Stüssy Tribe) varsity jacket, a staple of the brand since the early years, features “Earth in the corner pocket” embroidery with an IST 8-Ball Globe back patch. Jackets purchased at flagship Stüssy locations & Dover Street Market will receive a custom embroidered name on the chest, while select Stüssy Chapters and stussy.com will receive jackets with “NY.L.T.LA” branding.

The t-shirt, created by IST members Cali Thornhill Dewitt and Tremaine Emory, celebrates the global history of the brand, solidifying Stüssy’s position in the fight against racism and encouraging the next generation of leaders. 100% of net proceeds from the sale of this t-shirt goes to EQUAL JUSTICE INITIATIVE.

The ring is gold plated silver with inscriptions on both sides marking their 40 years in business: “Stüssy 1980” and “Tribe 2020”. The 40th Anniversary Collection will be available at Stüssy Chapter Stores, Dover Street Market and stussy.com on Friday, October 30th.
