Original Story (03/23/21): Recent leaks suggest that sacai and Undercover are teaming up on a set of Nike LDWaffles, further extending the projected rejuvenation of the widely-acclaimed collaborative 2019 silhouette.
The sacai LDWaffle was beloved upon its original release for its distinctive silhouette and versatile wearability, but many assumed that the shoe had been left in the dust with the original release of last year’s sacai x Nike Vaporwaffle. Recently, however, rumors of the silhouette’s return started with a sneak peek at a new LDWaffle made in collaboration fragment design, Hiroshi Fujirawa’s legendary Japanese streetwear and design house. Next, we got leaked information suggesting the release of yet another collaborative LDWaffle designed in partnership with CLOT, Edison Chen and Kevin Poon’s fashion label and streetwear retailer.
Now, however, it seems that we’ll be getting yet another tri-collaborative LDWaffle with UNDERCOVER, Jun Takahashi’s venerable Japanese fashion label that recently made headlines for its Neon Genesis Evangelion collection. According to reports, three colorways of the Undercover x sacai x Nike LDWaffle will release later this year. A recent leaked image of a black/yellow/white LDWaffle may be one of the three upcoming releases, as Undercover used a similar color scheme for one of their 2019 Nike Daybreak collabs.
