Vans x Sandy Liang Collection Is Filled With ’90s Nostalgia

Designer Sandy Liang knows New York. She and Vans are reuniting for a Spring 2022 collection, fueled by the nostalgia of growing up in NYC in the ’90s.

The collection stands on four classic Vans silhouettes, including the Sk8-Hi Platform 2.0, Style 73 DX, Authentic 44 DX, and the brand-new Sk8-Hi Tapered Modular. Liang’s style of “grandma fashion, sport femme, nostalgia, and humor” influences the creative direction across references of fashion, film, architecture, and concept design.

The Sk8-Hi Platform 2.0 starts with rose embroidery, while the Style 73 DX uses a similar floral stitch concept and a “Lower East Side Lover” messaging. The Authentic 44 DX mixes gingham and lace, and features a detachable pouch on the tongue. As for the Sk8-Hi Tapered Modular, Liang deconstructs the collar and adds lace trim and a removable outsole. As a brand-new Vans silhouette, the shoe is customizable and can be worn with and without the outsole. The Half Cab 33 DX also makes an appearance with green Sherpa uppers and custom flower eyelets.

As their third collection, the duo are keeping consistent with their overlapping love of footwear and apparel. Cotton canvas comprises the Chore Coat, which comes complete with embroidery, patches, and various materials. The capsule’s French terry hoodie is screen-printed and matches the embroidery on the Authentic Chino twill pant. T-shirts, long-sleeves, and Sherpa mock neck jacket, and more.

To round out the capsule, accessories include a daisy bucket hat and nylon crossbody bag. Liang’s graphics are near and dear to her, such as the butterflies that appear throughout the apparel and Authentic 44 DX.

The Vans x Sandy Liang Spring 2022 collection drops on January 28th on Vans.com and select Vans store, the Sandy Liang website and NYC flagship, and select retailers such as Foot Locker, Nordstrom, PacSun, ASOS, and Urban Outfitters.
