Yara Shahidi has earned her title as an actress, Harvard alumni, executive producer and social justice advocate. Not only has she spread her messages on-screen and throughout her studies, she also maintains a personal standard to be a shining defender of inclusion and diversity. Together with adidas, Yara is presenting a footwear and apparel collection that celebrates her Iranian and African American heritage.
Embracing the concept of ReCreation, the collection recognizes the younger generation’s appreciation for identity, culture and heritage. “I have always viewed clothing and footwear as incredible tools with tools with which we navigate the world in our own particular way,” said Shahidi.
Starting with footwear, the collection features the adidas Superstar which is fitting for a woman of her stature. It takes the original silhouette with a beige leather upper, Three Stripes and heel panels of brown and yellow tones, jewels on the laces and a distinct tongue. The insole is stamped with a golden “Yar” which means ‘friend.’
As for the apparel side, two adidas tracksuits take the cake. The satin set offers a more relaxed but cropped style. Yara’s Iranian makeup inspires the intricate designs from top to bottom. Smaller details like secret drawstrings offer a chance to get creative with the styling. The varsity set also holds a similar elaborate richness within a yellow and green color palette and a sophisticated sun logo on the back.
Shahidi has recruited other leaders, including Duckwrth, Andrea Thomas and Dora Owusu, to share the moment. These leaders recognize the responsibility of “making and taking up space” in the world in order to make room for new identities.
The adidas Originals x Yara Shahidi collection will release on May 13th on the adidas website, CONFIRMED, and select retailers.
